I have a gold ring with diamonds on it , and on the inside it reads " 0.40 CT ". I do not know what 0.40 CT is . Anybody want to tell me If it is real or what so ever it is. ?

Usually the stamp inside the rin should be 14k, 18k. 0.40ct means the total weight of the diamonds the ring has.
So your ring has X amount of diamonds which weighs 0.40carat. It is close to half a carat.

Yes i agree with rikoti that it indicate weight of the element in carat.
